Awarded best band of 2009 Tribali start off with a bang this year as they mark their second live performance in Australia on the1st of April. After the success Tribali had 2 years ago at the Blues festival the band were invited again to perform at the prestigious Blues & Roots Festival, held in Byron Bay. Howard Keith ( Jagged House management ) who had secured the spot 2 years ago said “ This is the second biggest festival in Australia with a traditional line up of musical giants, so getting in was no easy task. As soon as the band gave their first performance two years ago, festival owner Peter Nobles showed immediate interest to book them for the next edition, quoting them to be one of the highlight new comers of the festival.”
This year’s festival sees the return of the legendary band Crowded House as well as Jack Johnson, The Fray, Jools Holland, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Lyle Lovett, Aldi Meola, Gogol Bordello and 10CC amongst other giants. The festival attracts over 80,000 people and is made up of 6 stages. “We’re very fortunate to be given an amazing slot in one of the large stages at prime time 10:30 pm as headliners as well as two other slots. This is more than we ever dreamt off when we started our humble dream and musical journey” said Peter Paul from Tribali.
Back in Malta the band will be supporting the worldwide famous band PRODIGY on 30th April at MFCC, Ta` Qali. Re-known in Malta for their fantastic, jam-packed shows, this will definitely be a good opportunity to kick start the first concert held this year. Tribali front man Peter Paul further confirmed that the band underwent a line up change last October with the inclusion of Jean Pierre Zammit on guitars, and sitar. Following the top seller’ Elephants of Lanka’ which also won best album at this year’s Malta Music awards, the band will be entering the studio at the end of the year to start working on their third album.
“Music is about sharing the experience with as many people as possible and whilst marking 102 concerts abroad to date we have only relied once for additional funds from governmental bodies. It’s unfortunate to hear Malta did not negotiate and secure funds for culture from the EU which MALTESE artists could have benefited from directly as other foreign artists do. It’s even more unfortunate to hear we give a license to an agency to collect royalties from local establishments o.b.o. PRS who has not paid its full dues to the majority of local artists a mist all the attempts with rock solid proof . But probably the worst of all is that we do all our efforts to negotiate good fees for our artists and all the traveling, cargo and insurance expenses which would amount to about 14,000 Euros in this particular case simply put the act out of pocket . This is a shame I am no longer going to be quiet about as it effects all our artists and even the ones we don’t manage. Unlike other countries ,culture is simply the bottom of all priorities but this never disheartened us as news to be revealed soon will show !” added Howard Keith ( Director of Jagged House )
Tribali have also performed in Glastonbury Festival , the world’s biggest music festival and their past works were also featured on Petrol Records, World Music network, The rough guide to Indian Lounge, Songlines, CNN, BBC, SBS, Gondwana Sound, Maramundi , RAI and many more.
