It’s always a good idea to ask several radio DJ opinions , friends and other people in the industry as well as people that are not close to you. Once you are confident that the song you’re offering is worth shopping add it to the submission form above. Sometimes non –commercial tracks will be easier to shop so don’t evaluate the track solely as a single potential but consider other markets and niches. The quality of the song recorded must be of a good quality considering most companies don’t have time to go into further production time schedules and costs. Remember in this job you’re as good as your last one so kindly be considerate in sending us top quality songs only.

First of all you’ll receive an e-mail that we received your submission. Once your submission has been evaluated we will get back to you with our intentions. Please allow at least 5 working days. A license agreement will be issued between all parties concerned enabling us to act on your behalf. This is a non- exclusive agreement ,which means that you still own all the rights of the song (s). If we manage to license the song (s) to a record company ,publishing, film or other interested party , it is only then that the agreement becomes exclusive unless you have your rights assigned elsewhere. In this case we will offer a different agreement.

Once an agreement is reached and accepted by both parties Jagged House publishing will take the normal industry publishing cut from the income generated through this license. This is normally anything between 40 -50% . If the song is already published we will get a flat fee as negotiated with the original publisher.

The Synchronization, or “Synch” license, is granted by the owner of the copyright (owner or publisher). It allows permission for the licensing company to use the music for a particular project.The “Master” license is granted by those that control 100% of the actual recording itself. It allows permission for the licensing company to use the recording for a particular project .There are sometimes situations where the licensing company will want to re-record the music themselves; they would then only be concerned with the“Synch” license.

The money paid to license music is paid in advance. But even though you may sign a license contract, there are still no guarantees that your song will be used. Only when your song is actually used in a project is when you will receive your check. And don`t forget about the additional revenue earned from licensing through performance royalties, sound track CD’s releases, etc. Compensation is also affected by several things, including when, where, and how long a song will be used in the project. For example, a movie theme song will earn much more money than a background song playing in a car radio.

In order to complete the licensing of your material, you must have the legal right as the copyright owner(s), or be authorized by the copyright owner(s), and you must have the legal right or be authorized by the owner(s) of the master to grant that license. As well, if there are any "samples" in your music that are taken from other sources, you would need to obtain permission from the artist or copyright owner in order to be able to legally go forward with the licensing, or face risk of litigation later on .There is nothing more frustrating for a licensing company than to discover that the band, songwriter, producer, etc. trying to get their music licensed do not have the rights to do so, or being able to get only the “synch” license but not the “master” license. So be certain that all permissions have been granted by the copyright owners (writers and publishers), and, if applicable, by the owner(s) of the master recording.
